IDI LOTA Pioneers: Preparing auditors for the Digital Age
In November 2022, IDI has launched three new initiatives. One of these initiatives was Leveraging on Technological Advancement (LOTA) Pioneers. This initiative aims to transform nominated auditors into change agents who will bring technology to their SAI’s audit world by scanning their internal and external audit environments, strategizing for leveraging on technology in audits, and auditing the use of technology by governments.
In the beginning of 2023, IDI has distributed invitation package to all SAIs in the INTOSAI community and provided time until end of March to nominate two Pioneers at different leadership levels – one for leading a team to develop an audit strategy for technology audits and one for leading an audit team to conduct an audit of technology.
IDI will support LOTA pioneers through an integrated education and audit support platform. A global team of experts coming from SAIs of Brazil, USA, India, Jamaica, Costa Rica, UAE, Morocco, Kenya and IDI have designed and developed the education based on the identified curriculum for LOTA Pioneers. The education covers a variety of cross-cutting competencies such as professionalism, leadership, communication, inclusiveness, change management and speciality deep-dives into audit technology strategy development, technology audits and data analytics. The education will be delivered in a blended mode by combining digital education and one-week long in-person workshop.
IDI will support the LOTA Pioneers in technology audit strategy development and technology audit by providing review comments and advise at different stages of the projects. Besides education and support, IDI will also provide online social learning opportunities and access to a curated online library of resources. The global team of experts will be available for participating SAIs throughout the process.
Due to increased interest of SAIs in the audit digitalization and SAIs having digitalization high on their agenda, we have received number of applications that is almost two times exceeding the initial expectations. After assessing the applications, IDI has concluded that the vast majority of applications were of good quality and outlined the specific objectives SAIs are aiming to achieve through their participation in LOTA Pioneers. Considering the quality of applications and demand for the LOTA Pioneers initiative, IDI decided to accept all nominations that complied with the predefined nomination requirements. In total 34 SAIs were admitted to LOTA Pioneers 2023-2024. The admitted Pioneers also include 4 SAIs from the EUROSAI region.
